723 Marsh Rd. #3 Menlo Park, CA 94025 December 15, 1991 Dear Friends and Family, "Grace and peace to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. I thank my God every time I remember you." These words from the opening of Paul's letter to the Philippians express my feelings too as I write this Christmas letter to you. Paul remembered the Philippians with joy, not only because they were his dear friends, but because they shared with him the joyful knowledge of life through Jesus Christ. I pray that each of you may share in this joy as you hear the Christmas message once again. My years are beginning to fall into a pattern now. Once again most of my time was spent on work, church activities, and travel. At work, the filesystem project I've been working on for several years is drawing to a close. I'm spending most of my time on other activities now, but I still have some papers to write and performance measurements to do on the prototype system we've built. I'm also doing some related consulting with product groups around the company, to help transfer what we've learned. At church, I've changed hats from treasurer to president. The president's job is less work, for which I'm grateful. Things are going well at church. We've gained many new members in the last year, though many others have moved away, leaving the congregation only a little larger than before. We lost two of the three teachers in our grade school in June, but their replacements are doing well. I continued as treasurer for our summer Bible camp, but time didn't permit me to serve as a counselor this year. I also chaired the camp publicity committee, and I got into the new world of video production as I edited and did the voice-over for a promotional video about the camp. That was hard work, but fun and rewarding. The highlight of my travels this year was a two-week vacation in England and Scotland during May. My favorite memories of the trip are punting on the Cam River in Cambridge, the lovely cathedral York Minster, and seeing Henry IV (both parts) at the Royal Shakespeare Theater in Stratford-on-Avon. I made it to Milwaukee for a 4-day weekend in August, during which I attended a friend's wedding, celebrated my mother's and grandnephew's birthdays, went to the zoo with the family, and went out to dinner with another friend. (I apologize to those other friends whom I didn't have time to call, but I guess you can see my schedule was pretty full.) I also travelled on business to Seattle and to Monterey, both just short trips. I'll be in Milwaukee again for the holidays, from December 21 to January 2. Besides the usual Christmas and New Year's festivities, our family will be celebrating the wedding of my niece Beth (my sister Mary's younger daughter) on December 28. (By the way, another fun activity for me this year was hosting Beth and Mary when they came to visit for a week at Easter time.) Despite the crush of family get-togethers, I hope to see or at least phone those of you who live in Milwaukee while I'm home. Yours in Christ's love,
